Inspiration is ellusive, but a favorite activity, like a morning walk, encourages the muse. When I attempt to move a roadblock from the path of my story plot, I think about the possibilities, instead of obsessing about the barrier. Ideas arrive quickly, pushing the boulder out of my path, or I chip away a bit at a time. Writing is like creaing a painting. Start with an idea and sketch the framework. Then fill in the pieces, adding details until the finished product expresses the intent. The result can change the vision. The paint, or the words, are the guide.
